To help with the release of the first single from their debut EP ‘Alive,’ Dreamspace, in partnership with Director Dennis Liu, created a music video for North of Nine’s song, “Can It Be You?” based on the concept of love-inspired illnesses. Starring model Charlotte Mckinney as a doctor attempting to diagnose and treat the boys’ conditions, the video is full of fanciful scenes created and composited in-house–from fiery passion to invisible men. Try not to get the song stuck in your head, though, as we don’t have a cure.
With upwards of 15 individual effects shots, the range of VFX goes from green-screen keying to object removal, particle simulations, screen replacement and UI integration.
As impactful as fire is, it’s a health & safety nightmare on set. A mixture of live footage and particle systems was used to create realistic-looking flames–without the risk of immolating the talent.
From fiery passion to the frigid cold of heartbreak, multiple layers combine in these shots to create a suitably frosty, lovelorn effect and bring the musical piece to a final resolution.
